The Moire Effect

This first suggestion uses scanimatics or the socalled Moire effect, to create a simple yet spectacular representation of the keywords for the new Range Rover. In physics, a moiré pattern is an interference pattern created, for example, when two grids are overlaid at an angle, or when they have slightly different mesh sizes. This effect sets the basics for a simple animation, that has a high impact on the spectator as she will be the one generating this effect.

Basically the installation consists of a cage or structure made from thin aluminium profiles set up with a small gap between each profile. Inside this structure a combined lightsource and scanimatic suface with the same dimensions scaled down by two, is set up. We use this structure to backproject different images used to create the animations as the spectators move around the object.

It will be an immediate experience for the user and the structure will represent itself in both rounded and sharp aestetics, connecting the installation and the the general ideas of exclusiveness, lightness and engineering underlying the Range Rover SUV.

Hardware: Approx. 50 individuably shaped 5mm thick, 80mm wide flat aluminium profiles. A smaller inner structure made from a white material able to back project images from inside the structure. Polyester, projectionscreen or plastic material. 4 x short range projectors. One computer.

The Cloud

As a basis, this ideation works with the keywords of lightness, the environmental and the diffuse. The overall image of the concept is thougt as an illuminating object and partly unobtainable, making the Range Rover an object of dreams.

The concept uses a cloud of clear plastic tubes suspended from the ceiling to a position a few meters from the floor. Inside this cluster of tubes, patterns of selected autoparts from the Range Rover SUV are also made up of tubes. These parts can be quickly filled and emptied with an aluminium colored liquid, to create visualisations of the most notable parts of the car eg. the engine, the bodywork or other notable, easy recognisable parts.

By constantly hiding and unhiding important information or images in this blurry cloud of tubes, the installation will alternately shift between diffuse and very clear-cut aestetics and urge the user to examine the parts thoroughly leaving her with a dreamy image of the Range Rover SUV in mind. Thus giving the installation both a sense of lightness (the cloud) and strength (the sharp wireframe).

Hardware: Approx. 2 km of clear plastic tube ø20mm. Aluminium colored non stick and non drip liquid.Pumps or circulation pumps, to make the liquid travel fast through the tubes.

Lightsources, prefferably white LED to mount inside the cloud for illuminating effects.

Air

The third installation focuses on the con­cept of the lightness and luxury of the new Range Rower SUV and combines it with the strength and visual aesthetics of aluminium. The installation consists of a 10×16 matrix of 2 meter high glass tubes with a diameter of 60mm. Each tube is attached to a alu­minium platform which features an electric fan hidden under the tube. A polystyrene sphere is placed inside each tube just above the electrical fans. This construction allows the spheres to indiviually move vertically creating various low resolution images.

As the spheres rapid float into different positions the audience will experience an audio/visual abstraction of the Range Ro­ver SUV. The sound from the compressed air creates a car like humming and combi­ned with the low resolution images created by the spheres, the audience are able to interpret different images from various posi­tions around the installation.

Hardware: 160 glass/plastic tubes. 160 electrical fans or a compressor. One com­puter with attached Arduino boards for hardware control.

Touch Skin is the ultimate digital accessory – A touch sensitive watch that combines tradition and transcendence via classic minimalist analogue watch design.

Touch Skin fits in neatly with existing gadgets and is thought of as an accessory that can follow you in all situations of your daily life. From the morning when you wake, customize the look of the watch to match your dress code with the build- in watch designs. If you are not satisfied you can always connect the watch to your computers Bluetooth and download new skins or design your own from the Touch Skin App. Touch Skin is not seen as a smartphone watch, however future skin development opens up to this direction.

The three touch steps:

1. For battery saving efficiency the watch is normally in stealth mode. By pressing the screen gently with one finger, the watch switches between idle mode and normal/ night mode for three seconds.
2. By pressing the screen gently with two fingers, the watch switches to Date mode for three seconds.
3. And finally by pressing the screen with three fingers it is possible for the user to switch between the different skins installed in the watch.

Details

The shadow on the watch is rendered to follow the given time of day adding an almost seamless animation to the watch, much like time itself.

The watch is radio controlled so no need for adjusting the time and at the same time the gift box acts as wireless charger. Touch Skin is placed on top of the box and the magnetic lock in the wristband automatically snaps to the box and the watch starts charging. The charger also works with other wireless charged objects.

NOTE on the ongoing discussion about specs: These specs are a proposal and should not be seen as conclusive. I deliberately put the specs in the high end of the scale to bear in mind that the watch could be upgraded during its lifetime to support heavier functions. Also, who wants cheap specs ;)

Future development
Downloadable pulse watch skin and the possibility to develop add- on accessories for the watch, consisting of a heart rate monitor to communicate with the watch. The watch could also be developed in a cubic and most notably in a female edition.

Morning environment

The watch is a concept and is of now not in production! I am currently in the process of finding out how to move forward and the watch is unfortunately not available for pre-order yet.

FOLDed is a contemporary folding table created with simplicity and detail in mind. The most striking detail is the black nautical rope that acts as an aestetic, organic disturbance in the otherwise almost cubistic look. The rope also functions as a handle to fold and carry the table.

FOLDed is produced from 17mm ash plywood and an 8mm nautical rope. When folded the table legs are held in place by magnets, hidden inside the legs.

A simple procedure is used to fold the table. By pulling the rope and using the magnets in the tables legs a troubleless workflow is achieved allowing a single person to handle the table without problems.

I samarbejde med illustrator Niels Rahbæk, har jeg udviklet en historie, som foregår i et fælles fortælleunivers og miljø for både tablet og fysisk bog. Vi har lagt bunden til en historie som kan foregå uafhængigt af hinanden enten på tablet via en app eller på bogform. Den stærkeste oplevelse fås dog hvis man både har bog og app, da historien flankeres af spil og information mellem app og bog. Den dag Sigurd Starfogger stjal min lillebrors torden tager sit udgangspunkt i det engelske udtryk (To steal ones thunder) som grundlæggende betyder at stjæle opmærksomheden fra andre.

Fortællingen bygger på en gammel familiefejde fra bedstefarens tid, som ingen rigtig kan huske hvorfor startede. I bogen fortælles historien i nutiden, mens man i app’en føres  frem og tilbage i tiden. Ved at kombinere den fysiske bog og app’en er det således muligt via forskellige spil og historiesekvenser at finde ud af, hvad der foregår. Det er dog samtidig muligt at benytte både bog og app hver for sig.

I bogen fortsætter fejden i den nye generation med hovedperson (Jeg-fortæller) og den
jævnaldrende Sigurd Starfogger som ‘fjender’. Starfogger familien er byens ’kendisser’ og dette beror på en lang tradition (igen tilbage til bedstefarens tid), med at involvere sig i alt fra x-factor lignende konkurrencer over digtoplæsninger til skuespil, familien Starfogger er med i det hele.

Vores hovedperson har et horn i siden på Sigurd, fordi han selv hele tiden bliver trumfet, fx når der skal holdes oplæg i skolen eller han skal optræde med sin syngende iller. Sigurd Starfogger har altid, flankeret af sin flamboyante far, tilsyneladende noget mere spændende og ekstravagant materiale og løber derfor med altid med opmærksomheden. Det hele kulminerer i det årlige skolespil hvor vores hovedperson opsnapper at Sigurd har planer om at netop hans lillebror skal overtage hovedrollen  fra hovedpersonens lillebror.

Hovedpersonen lægger en snedig plan for at forhindre Sigurd i at opnå sit mål. Deres respektive småbrødre har ikke noget med konflikten at gøre, de er gode venner og kommer godt ud af det med hinanden. Derfor er konfliktens omdrejningspunkt at begge storebrødre er lige gode om det og konflikten kunne have været undgået hvis de ikke blandede sig. Det hele ender med at de får spoleret skolespillet og at dermed er der ikke nogen, som vinder.

Selve hovedhistorien er omkranset af bihistorier, som på en måde binder det hele sammen og gør det sjovt. Fx har Starfoggerfamiliens mor et overforbrug af kosmetiske operationer og hver gang hun kommer ind i historien, er der noget af hende, som er lavet om. Nogle gange grotesk, andre gange ikke.

Og så er der jo mig. Helt almindelig, faktisk så almindelig at de få skavanker jeg har, gør mig ualmindeligt almindelig, i stedet for bare sådan normalt leverpostejs almindelig. Jeg har krøller som grænser til en afro frisure, men kan man blive klippet så? Måske, men det er min mor der gør det og så ligner jeg pludselig noget fra en tegneserie og vi kan jo heller ikke have at folk går og tror jeg er ham fra Jackson Five eller sådan noget. Deruover er jeg blind som en beostær, hvis de da er blinde? Og jeg burde egentlig gå med briller men da jeg var ved brillemanden kom jeg ud med noget der lignede en mellemting mellem en forrude i en kabinescooter og en (ret) dårlig udgave af batman brillen. Nå, men i hvert fald går jeg slet ikke med dem i skolen hvor Amalie jo er, og det resulterer så i, at jeg ikke kan se hvad der står på tavlen. Og når jeg ikke kan se hvad der står på tavlen, må man jo gætte sig frem og det kan i den grad ses på mine karakterer og på mine lærere, som tror jeg blev tabt på hovedet som lille eller fik frosne sutter og at det er derfor jeg er lidt langsom.

IDEOLOGY

Shoe# is based on the relationship between the inner and outer values of a brand and a specific product and changes the perception of how a brand presents its products. By using the standard shoebox in its basic form and pushing the limits of its application, we have tried to create a modular system that can be used in countless ways from production to consumer.

LOGO, GRAPHICS & MATERIALS

Shoe# is constructed in cardboard, which as a material is solid, easy to manipulate, is reusable and inexpensive. Cardboard has its very own unique aesthetics and can, when used with other materials such as concrete, wood and light, help to create an expression that has references to something both bohème, luxurious and modern.

By using these existing cardboard aesthetics, the shoe# has a shape that is a slightly twisted cubic with the logo carved from the outer most layer of the box, giving it a light and soft look.

Shoe # is also fitted with a handle in the box top that can be folded up and makes it easy to manage.

Shoe# also works as an interactive storefront. Below is a short video showing the basic technology behind the interaction.

Shoe# is still a prototype and not in production for any specific company or brand.

I worked with artist Niels Rahbæk on a project called Processen (The Process). The project was based on different themes as a starting point for an investigation of the creative process. By combining imagination, experience and knowledge, we tried through different media, both analogue- and digital, to expose some of the hidden connections that emerge in the creative partnership.

The project was a five day process, were we developed a lot of different material. We did not fokus on a specific final product, but more on the moments that appeared, where we experienced a glimpse of the aestetic and artistic during the work-process.

As a result the clay sculptures and animations below, were created on the spot during a couple of hours as a part of the exhibition.

Shapeoko CNC

Still calibrating (spotted my first gray hairs during that) but an almost working DIY CNC :) again made with arduino, motorshields etc.

Mural at AAMS (Aarhus School of Marine and Technical Engineering)

Assistant to artist Niels Rahbaek. The murals are abstractions of ships engines, converted into some sorts of crafts.

Arduino and Lego camera trigger

I needed a camera trigger for making stop/motion. So this tiny Lego robot made with arduino, motorshield and a servo, served my needs. It fits a Panasonic Lumix LX2 and the triggers’ time interval can be adjusted in milliseconds. (Filmed with my old phone, sorry for the bad quality).

DIY 3d scanner

Using the David Laserscanner, arduino and some Lego (again), I played around with this scanner project. Amazingly it worked (more or less)
